Keeping children motivated

Initially, after-school activities can seem more like work than fun, but this doesn’t have to be the case. The trick is to keep your child motivated by continuing to work hard even after that initial excitement. Some examples of this are giving them praise for a job well done and providing incentives for continued commitment to the activity. This is very important to consider when the child is involved in after-school education.

Make the career-academics connection early on

Let your child know how important an excellent career is. Tell them that the foundation for one is built on wholesome learning. To turn your son into a studious adult, engage him in activities that are related to his studies. Make the connection between his studies and the real world clear whenever possible.

Set goals

Let your child know, through example, that hard work will be rewarded. If you model the belief that achievement is a natural by-process of hard work, your child is more likely to put in their best effort. Children who believe this are also less likely to drop out of programs and courses.

Reward success

Encourage your child when they achieve something by giving them positive reinforcement. This will increase their sense of confidence and self-esteem. Conversely, give praise rather than criticism to avoid damaging their fragile ego.
